Overview

In this course, we will read and discuss early papers in computer security.

Before each lecture, you are to read and be prepared to discuss all readings assigned. The course calendar lists the readings:

We will draw heavily on the excellent bibliography of early papers in computer security maintained by the UC Davis Security Lab.

In some cases there are retrospective papers available that add additional insight. Some sources for such papers:

• The “classic papers” track at ACSAC
• The “lost treasures” issue of IEEE Security & Privacy magazine
